How does the BSP organization use its power within the community.

BSP leverages its influence to create pathways for equity, visibility, and opportunity within the Black community and beyond. By bringing together leaders from sports, business, and civic sectors, BSP amplifies unheard voices and channels collective power toward meaningful outcomes, including mentorship, youth development, and economic advancement. Through partnerships, public programming, and community engagement, BSP ensures that its platform bridges professional excellence and social impact.

Awards were given to individuals who have non-sports related companies – how does the acknowledgement of these companies fit into BSP’s plan.

While BSP’s foundation lies in sports, its broader vision is community empowerment and excellence in all sectors. Recognizing business owners and entrepreneurs outside of sports underscores BSP’s belief that success in the Black community extends beyond athletic achievement. Honoring these individuals highlights the interconnectedness of sports, business, and culture, showing that influence and leadership can manifest in many forms. This approach aligns with BSP’s mission to celebrate Black excellence across all industries, not just within the game.

What qualifies a company to become a nominee?

Nominees are selected based on their demonstrated impact, leadership, and commitment to advancing the community. BSP looks for organizations that embody innovation, integrity, and social responsibility — those that are successful in business and use their platform to uplift others. Consideration is also given to local involvement, diversity initiatives, and measurable contributions that align with BSP’s mission to promote empowerment and inclusion through both sport and enterprise.

How do you see BSP coalition with black communities and sports?

BSP’s coalition model represents a powerful union between cultural influence and community action. Sports have long served as a unifying force in Black communities, and BSP builds upon that legacy by using its network to advocate for education, entrepreneurship, and equity. The coalition fosters collaboration among athletes, business owners, and civic leaders to drive initiatives beyond competition that shape the future of representation, economic strength, and generational progress within the community.
